The Allagash Abduction is one of the most well-documented and compelling mass abduction cases in UFO history. On the night of August 20, 1976, four young men named Jim Weiner, his brother Jack Weiner, Charlie Foltz, and Chuck Rak were on a wilderness canoe fishing trip in the remote Allagash Wilderness Waterway in northern Maine.
While fishing on Eagle Lake after dark, the group noticed a large, bright, glowing sphere (estimated 80 feet in diameter) hovering above the treeline. The object slowly moved toward their canoes, emitting a brilliant white light. As it approached, the men panicked and paddled frantically toward shore. The sphere then shot a beam of light toward them, after which they experienced a period of missing time.
Later that night, the men returned to their campsite feeling exhausted and confused. They noticed the campfire they had left burning brightly had burned down to cold ashes, suggesting several hours had passed. Over the following years, Jim Weiner began having nightmares and neurological issues. In 1988, he and his brother Jack underwent regressive hypnosis with renowned abduction researcher Budd Hopkins. Charlie Foltz and Chuck Rak later did the same.
Under hypnosis, all four men independently recalled nearly identical experiences: they were levitated out of their canoes by a beam of light and taken aboard the craft. Inside, they encountered six grey, humanoid beings with large heads and black eyes. The beings conducted medical examinations, including skin scrapings, blood samples, and reproductive procedures (semen extraction). The men described being in a brightly lit, clinical environment and feeling paralyzed but conscious. After the examinations, they were returned to their canoes with their memories apparently erased.
The case stands out due to the consistency of the four independent accounts, the physical evidence (such as Jim Weiner’s unusual skin scars and neurological symptoms), and the fact that the men had no prior interest in UFOs or abduction lore. The incident was thoroughly investigated by Budd Hopkins and later detailed in his book Missing Time and in the documentary The Allagash Abductions.
